Build a Skincare Routine.

What makes great skin?  Well it’s definitely DNA, but a proper skincare routine is a must in order to keep the skin looking bright and youthful.  Today we are bombarded by different skincare routines on social media from experts, influencers, and articles. The amount of information is endless!  It can be confusing to cipher out what will work and what won’t.  We hope this article will help sort and simplify much of this information for you, and help you to “Build a Skincare Routine”.

But more importantly we understand that it is not practical to have a multiple step routine, and WE HAVE A SOLUTION FOR YOU!  First, we will go through the basics of a normal skincare routine, and then introduce you to two products that are not only highly effective, but also multitask.  These products help eliminate steps and therefore, provide you with a streamline routine that is easy to incorporate. Who doesn’t want that?

The Basics.

Basic Steps:

  1. Cleanse – Wash your skin
  2. Tone– Balance the skin
  3. Serum – Depending on the serum, can deliver antioxidants, brighten, exfoliate, repair etc
  4. Moisturize – hydrate and soften the skin
  5. SPF – applied in am – protects skin from UV rays

These five basic skincare routine steps that help the skin to function at its best and helps to identify troubled areas.  This routine helps to discover skin changes as we age, and help us switch to products that will benefit the skin.  “As your skin’s needs change, so do your products.”

Nothing is Instantaneous

Let’s face it  – there is no instant fix.  Any new skincare product takes time to work, and depending on the type of product, you may not see a difference for at least 6 to 8 weeks.  Consistency and patience are a must with any new skincare routine.  Give it time to work and reap the benefits.

Cleansing

It is important to find the right cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin of healthy oils.  Exfoliating scrubs are not necessary to cleanse the skin, and should be used no more than once a week.

Types of Cleansers Depending on Skin Type.

Gentle foaming cleansers are ideal for acne prone skin, whereas cream or lotion cleansers are good for dry, red, eczema skin. Oil cleansers are best for all skin types, but especially sensitive skin, for example argan oil is non-comedogenic, light weight and moisturizing.  Although you may not think oil cleansers clean the face well, they in fact work very well.  Oil absorbs oil.  Those with mature skin can benefit from a melting balm that has a rich buttery feel and melts into a liquid when massaged into the skin.  It can effectively remove makeup and is very moisturizing.

Toning

When we think of toners we immediately think of nasty strong astringents, however, today toners have taken on a whole new meaning.  Toners are thin liquids that deliver a healthy dose of vitamins to your skin, and help other serums absorb better.  Some of our favorites are AHA/BHA (Alpha and Beta Hydroxy acids) which exfoliate the skin by gently removing dead skin cells, and improving sun damaged skin.  Hyaluronic Acid is a favorite that boosts hydration and locks in dewiness, and smooths out fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the skin looking plump.  Some toners have Vitamin C and E, which adds antioxidants to fight free radicals.

Toners are applied after cleansing.  The way to apply a toner is to pour a few drops into your palms and apply directly to the face.  But it is best to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Serums

Serums are friendly assets for the skin.  They are filled with active ingredients to help combat uneven skin tone, dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles.  One key serum we swear by is a Vitamin C Serum, which delivers antioxidants to help against free radicals.  Other types of serums can contain Retinol, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Peptides, etc.  Each of these ingredients target specific issues.  Stay tuned to be introduced to two serums that deliver multiple benefits.

Moisturizer

The basic function of a moisturizer is to provide hydration and to soften the skin. It is recommended to use a moisturizer year round.  Choosing the right moisturizer would depend on the type of skin, for example if you have dry skin, a cream based moisturizer would be ideal, whereas oily skin is best served with a gel moisturizer.  A lotion based moisturizer is perfect for normal skin and balms for sensitive skin.

SPF

And finally sunscreen is the most crucial of an entire skincare routine. Consistent daily use of sunscreen helps fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture, and changes in pores. It is the holy grail of skincare.  There is a lot to know about sunscreen and we will have an entire blog dedicated to it in the near future. So stay tuned.

MōMISkin Vitamin C Serum with Bakuchiol incorporates THD Ascorbate, a stable form of vitamin C, the foundation of all skincare routines.  This form does not oxidize, therefore  delivering  the vitamin C directly to the skin, preventing and repairing damage caused by the sun and free radicals.  The combination of THD Ascorbate, Ferulic Acid, Vitamin E, and Bakuchiol, is unique in that they work together to combat the free radical damage of aging skin. The addition of Bakuchiol, an Ayurvedic extract that is an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and antiviral agent that has been proven to fight the signs of aging, improving the overall quality of the skin. The additive benefit of these ingredients is most effective in reversing signs of aging when used everyday. In addition, we have incorporated Hyaluronic Acid into this serum, which helps lock in moisture, helping to even out and plump the skin.
